SIGGRAPH 2024, DigiPro and Open Source Days – how was it?
| 9 minute readI was fortunate enough to find myself (for the first time!) at SIGGRAPH, DigiPro and Open Source Days (by Academy Software Foundation) this past weekend in Denver, Colorado. It was a wildly exciting trip so I thought I would share some of my takeaways from these last few days of talks, panels, papers and networking, of course from the perspective of a in-the-making artist interested in the current state of the CG world.

WIP - Rock Sculpt, Low Poly & UV Map
| 9 minute readIn continuation of my Game Asset creation course on CGCookie, I've done a few more steps (more than I anticipated) towards creating a 3D asset. In the coming paragraphs I'll showcase a bit of my process, from drawing concept art (see previous article) through to modelling a prototype, sculpting, retopology, low-poly build, UV mapping (+ baking) and rendering (the image you see here) as preparation for the upcoming texture painting course. If any of this sounds like your cup of tea, stick around!

WIP - Rock Turnaround
| 2 minute readArmed with a bit of enthusiasm, I've started taking a Game Asset creation course on CGCookie to learn a few things about 3D modelling. This is a short work in progress from the first step – creating some concept art of several stacked boulders (which will be modelled in Blender in upcoming lessons.)

My first game jam (with an intro to Godot)
| 11 minute readIn an unexpected turn of events, I found myself participating in my first ever game jam. I never tried to make a game before, I wasn't even a frequent gamer until a year or two ago. So how did I go (in two-ish months) from nothing to making my first ever working prototype in Godot for the Beginner's Jam April 2024?

p5js – Random Circles/Grid
| 5 minute readI took up p5js, as many do, in an attempt to learn some programming basics in a visual way. My first contact with p5js was in 2019 when I assisted for a Creative Computing summer school for university students. I eavesdropped on a course while doing my actual job, and I liked the idea of procedurally creating beautiful images. Ever since. I've had a few attempts at p5js with various degrees of success (including trying to re-write snake, which is an ongoing project). Fast forward to 2023, I have finally found it in myself to sit down and explore p5js, this time with a simple goal in mind: create an interesting piece only with circles.

UX Case Study – Voice Assisted Cooking app
| 16 minute readThis is a comprehensive article summarising a collaborative project for a Voice Assisted Cooking app which I did together with my colleagues during our MSc UX Engineering at Goldsmiths, University of London. This is a somewhat condensed version of the project, as I chose to leave out some of the more academic parts. With that being said, why voice assisted cooking?

UX Case Study – Peer Mentoring Programme
| 8 minute readStarting University in a different country is incredibly exciting, but as is the case with many (myself included), there are certain challenges that come specifically with integrating as a foreign student. While I may not have struggled with the language, it took me a while to meet people and understand social interactions in this new setting - hence this project done together with my colleagues for our MSc in UX Engineering. A topic close to us all, we tried to come up with a solution for integrating and pairing first year international students.
